CATALYST
Shortlisted For 14,000 Square Foot Native American Center At NAU
FLAGSTAFF,
AZ- Ranked
first in Arizona for Native American enrollment, and first in the
United States for graduating Native Americans with master’s degrees,
Northern Arizona University is well on its way to realizing its
aspiration to be the nation’s leading university serving Native
Americans. In 2006, initial plans for a new Native American Cultural Center at NAU were placed on hold due to funding shortfalls. At that time, CATALYST had been shortlisted for the then 42,000 square foot Cultural Center project. In January of 2009, NAU re-issued a Request for Proposals for a new Native American Cultural Center, this time as a downsized 14,000 sq.ft., LEED-Platinum facility. CATALYST ARCHITECTURE is pleased to announce that it has been shortlisted again (along with four other design firms), for the prestigious project, competing against an initial field of more than three-dozen architectural firms from across the country. CATALYST will participate in short list interviews, which have been scheduled for Monday, March 16th. The design of this preeminent cultural resource center for Native American students, visitors, and scholars would be a notable addition to CATALYST’s Native American portfolio, which includes such projects as the Yavapai-Apache Cultural Resource Center, the Yavapai-Prescott Cultural Heritage Center, the Hualapai Cultural Resource Center, and the Moapa Tribal Nation Master Plan, among others. As an interpretive educational facility, with its stated high-performance goal of LEED-Platinum rating, the NAU Native American Cultural Center is right up CATALYST’s alley. CATALYST ARCHITECTURE is an award winning, full-service sustainable design firm with offices in Prescott, and Flagstaff Arizona. The firm specializes in master planning, public/tribal, commercial, and custom residential work, with an emphasis on high-performance, resource-efficient design and construction practices. With both principals Jeffrey L. Zucker and Matthew B. Ackerman LEED accredited, Catalyst is committed to the thoughtful integration of our natural and built environments. |
