Dear
Clients & Colleagues:
Healing
Our Planet, Healing Ourselves
This months newsletter is
devoted to healthier buildings. For better or worse, we
(Americans) spend most of our lives inside the structures we
create. The irritants, chemicals, gasses, and other
pollutants found in so many conventional building products are
slowly accumulating in our bodies. The impact on our health
and the health of our children is as significant as the food we
eat.
Environmental sensitivities, asthma, and cancers are on the rise, with
more and more experts pointing towards man-made sources as the
cause. Despite governmental efforts intended to protect our
environment (and by extension
ourselves), real change will happen when the everyday consumer becomes
better educated about the contaminant risks, as well as the range of
life-sustaining options available.
Non-toxic, earth-friendly materials and technologies are not just
a catchy marketing angle-- our very lives may depend on them. Healthier
alternates
are constantly being developed for our homes and
offices. We only need to ask, and let go of the mindset which
presumes that the upfront price of an item is the only real cost we need to consider.
|
"There
is a direct link between healing
the individual and
healing this
planet... We will not have healthy individuals,
healthy families,
and healthy communities if we do not
have
clean air,
clean water, and healthy soil."
-- Lloyd Dean, MA CEO

If we're honest with ourselves, we can acknowledge that the decisions
we
make about our buildings have a significant and cumulative affect
upon our planet and ourselves. It's time to step back, take a
breath, and reconsider the choices we're making about the
places in which we live and work. Our children are
watching.
