Work
Of The Heart
Welcome to our first Sketch_Pad issue for 2008.
We will be going to a bi-monthly format this year, so if you don't
receive your customary newsletter in February– don't worry, you haven't
missed anything. You'll get your next issue of The Sketch_Pad the
first week of March.
This month's mailing marks the start of our
third year of publishing our company's newsletter. The time this
has required, and
feedback we have received has been more than rewarding. For
myself, the
discipline of selecting the various Green
Department items each month, has been a productive effort of
self (and other) education. Several of the
Technology-of-the-Month items that Jeff and I researched initially for
the newsletter, have ended up in our designs. Our Copper State
commercial building for example, quickly nearing completion in Prescott
Valley, will be the first structure in the area to use solar-tracking skylights– a
relatively new technology featured in our January '07 issue
of The Sketch_Pad.
With now over 2,000 people on our newsletter eMailing
list, the community
response has been very gratifying. Our subscribers have not only
eMailed back their comments (see "What People
are Saying About the
Sketch_Pad"), but I am frequently stopped on the street by
individuals wanting to share just how much they've enjoyed the
architectural
graphics and timely content. It seems that the issues Jeff and I
are
involved with in our daily work are very much on the minds of not
only our local colleagues, but for folks across America, as
well as internationally. We've had people subscribe to The
Sketch_Pad from as far away as Lagos, Nigeria, to Mumbai, India.
The Partner's Message, which Jeff and I have taken turns writing
each month, has provided a forum for us to speak out on
personally meaningful topics; from local development concerns, to
global
climate change, to simply being alive. This opportunity has met
my own needs to more fully embrace the role of the architect as an
'advocate' of (and hopefully 'catalyst' for) positive change– a notion
to which our business is devoted.
We look forward to continuing this work-of-the-heart publication over
the coming
year, and would like to thank you all for your ongoing support.
With Regards,
